DPP Issue 19 - Lomo

Shameless Plug: Go grab the latest issue of Digital Photographer Phillipines (Issue 19)!

Proving that DPP is not all about 'Digital', they featured something that is usually done in film. The theme for this issue is a trend/lifestyle that hit shutterbugs all around the country - Lomography.

Im so happy that with God's grace, I made it through the readers gallery.
At first, I thought my entry would not be included since I just read DPP's email regarding submitting the high-res copy, days after their set deadline.

"Ride The Light" can also be found in my album - Here Fishy Fishy. Taken using a Lomography Fisheye #2. A shot from the very first roll of film that Pauline Vicencio included when I bought the camera.
Captured on a footbridge in Julia Vargas / C-5 going to Panciteria de San Antonio to have dinner with Roseanne.. c",)

Congratulations too Chief SleekGeek - Lenard Po and the others who got into the readers gallery. Cheers!

I stumbled upon this website: http://www.faceyourpockets.com/ through one of my multiply friends and thought that this idea was worth the try. <strike>thanks jennie!</strike>

Things that are living in the pockets of your bag, jeans or jacket: travel and pay checks, old cigarette pack that just looks interesting, sugar lumps and all the stuff that has found home in your pockets. They are all the treasures our project is looking for! Our goal is not only bring all this objects into light but show the owner of them.

The process:
Place the objects on the scanner. Place your face/part of it on the scanner as well.

What's in it?
Cellphone
ATM
Pizza Hut's Palm Card
Digiprint Pro Card
Business Card
Company ID with pulley & Pedestal key
Car Keys
4Gb & 8Gb USB Flash Drives
Lens Cap
Polaroid Picture with loved one.
LRT1, LRT2 and MRT Prepaid Cards
G-Pass
Canon RC-1 Remote
Peppermint After-Coffee Mints
Chunk of Cash

Try it yourself!!

Panagbenga 2008

"Panagbenga" is a Malayo-Polynesian term for "season of bloooming". Every year, thousands of people coming from different corners of the world gather a small wintry town north and the summer capital of our dear land – Baguio. Floats covered with blooms and other festive activities take place in this once a year occasion.

A weekend in February, I was able to witness the flower festival together with my EON friends. Even though it drizzled the whole morning during the parade and overwhelming people bunch up in the undersized streets of Baguio, the experience was a blast!
Thanks to the contacts of Aaron & Randy, we were able to secure Official Panagbenga Photographers pass. We were able to roam around the parade grounds with ease. Without it, I doubt if we can get good images due to the raucous crowd.

Here is my fair share of this colorful and blooming flower festival. Enjoy!

Infrared Dreams

Its been 276 days since I last took an Infrared Image, and now I'm back.

No longer using a point-and-shoot camera, I'm still coping up with the techniques.

Backstage @ Big Night

Backstage at PBB's Big Night

My 2008 started with a blast.
January 5, 2008 -- Thanks to co-EONite Alvin Javier, Me, Larry, Karlo and Maxi were invited to have an all-access pass for PBB Celebrity Edition 2's big night to shoot for ABS-CBN publishing.

Here are my backstage shots with some of the kapamilya celebrities there.

One thing I did was to take a picture of me with a celebrity using my cool fujifilm instax mini polaroid camera, then have em autographed!

It was soo fun. I got a lot of reactions like, "that's a coooool camera. where can i buy one?" Some even asked if I can take a picture of them (solo) as a remembrance.

Time-lapse: Hintay

And so I experimented to do time-lapse photography.

Time Lapse
Pronunciation: \’tīm-laps\
Function: adjective
Time-lapse
photography is a cinematography technique whereby each film frame is captured
at a rate much slower than it will be played back. When replayed at normal
speed, time appears to be moving faster and thus lapsing.

Without any idea or research on doing it, I simply mounted my cam on a tripod inside my car, and speculate the setting of my camera.

992 of 1552 photos were included in this video.

Here’s my feeble attempt in time-lapse photography. Enjoy!

Notes:
+ taking a total of 1,552 shots in 2 hours, i'm not yet sure if i'll try this again in the near future.
i'm worried on the drawback because of the high actuation count
+ if shooting inside a car, try to have the windshield clean
+ to have a clear concept and story board
<strike>yes my 1st timelapse video is just me travelling inside a car. </strike>

Higantes Festival 07

November 23, 2007 | Higantes Festival (Giants festival).

Tourists, Photographers & locals gather into this very colorful festival in Angono Rizal that dates back to the late 1800s.

The town celebrates the Higantes Festival which is characterized by huge paper mache effigies or “higantes”.

The “higante” tradition began last century, when Angono was a Spanish hacienda. The hacienda owners concerned about costs prohibited all celebrations except for one annual fiesta. The townspeople concerned about enjoyment decided to make the best of a bad situation. Using an art form brought from Mexico by Spanish priests, they created larger-than-life caricatures of their Spanish landlords. In typical Filipino fashion, the fiesta become in equal parts, a stunning spectacle and a tricky inside joke.

Angono has always been known as a haven for artists. The street where the festivities were held (near the old church) is in fact, lined with the wall paintings of Carlos "Botong" Francisco, N...
